London campaign proposal
please vote for me :) I'm two events away from meeting the individual criteria ....
If you've ever been told to give up, you stand 'no chance', or faced financial struggles to do what is you would love to do - but you refused to give up on a dream and did it anyway, you know where I am coming from.
I am an Australian beach volleyballer on a mission to fulfill a dream I created over twelve years ago. To win gold at the Olympics / and to play professional beach volleyball full time... I have studied entrepreneurship, travel writing, online/affiliate programs, given up a professional career, long term relationship and more - because I am not only stubborn, but on a mission to prove people wrong...
Yes, I am determined to prove to others when you set your heart on something, no matter how hard or difficult it looks, you can achieve it. I am determined to inspire others to never give up on what they really want to do. I am determined to show people if you have faith and believe in yourself, anything is possible. At the end of the day, no-one knows what is best for you apart from you.
As many of you know, we are moving into the final phase of qualification for beach volleyball for the London Olympics. At this stage, it looks like the top Australian team will secure the first place in the top 16 securing Australia's first spot... The only other options left to help Australia qualify its second place are through the Continental Cup and/or the BVB World Cup Qualifier - both scheduled in June this year.
With the games under 90 days away it's hitting crunch time now. I either have to step up or step out, so I have chosen to step up! :) I have no chance to make the cut in the top 16 so my new goal is to play two more FIVB events by June 14,2012.. To meet the basic individual eligibility criteria to be considered for selection/shadow selection for the Continental Cup or other events, and then if Australia can secure the place, still keep myself available to compete and fulfill my dream at the Games if the opportunity arises.

Yes, the odds are dramatically stacked against me, yes there are challenges... but that's what the Olympics is all about right? A true Olympian would never quit, so I am pushing ahead regardless... I have just officially been approved to play in Korea and Italy - so if I make these two events it will keep me in the game..:)

permanent tattoo logo & PR packages up on Ebay to try and raise the money needed to play professionally. But after a serious call related to copyright issues and branding, I had to pull my Ebay proposal.

At the last minute I obtained a brilliant sponsor - Pure Elements Therapy in Newfarm.. I managed to play 6 FIVB events in 2011- the most I have ever played.
Then I almost won $5,000 in a random shopping competition.. Watch the video here.

QUICK FACTS ABOUT ME (Claire Kelly): CAN I PLAY? Yes.
Am I the best athlete in Australia? No. In fact there at least two teams ahead of us on the FIVB tour, as well as many other teams & individuals in Australia in a similar situation.
But I think I can be one of the best, as long as I can play and train full time on the best international beach volleyball tour in the world- the FIVB. And obtain the support I need to concentrate purely on building our skills (and winning.)
I have trained extensively under Nat and Kerri's gold medal coach Steve Anderson. I also have my level one international beach volleyball coaching certification
Qualified and played extensively on the Australian National Tour with finishes in the top ten. Aus tour results: 7th,9th, 13th in Perth (with a AA partner) and a 9th in the Aus Championships.
I've won QLD State Event and indiviudal Queen of Beach titles previously.
I have had a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd in QLD state events in 2011
